I will give the general outline of how this is done. Your specific email program may work just a little differently but the basics will be the same.

Attaching an image to an email or embedding an image means that that image is actually sent to every computer that receives your email. Adding an image to an email by linking it to an image that is somewhere on the Internet means that the email program or the Yahoo group or even a blog will actually pull the image from the source without adding that file to the user's computer. The last method is preferred as it makes much smaller emails and doesn't add extra files to the recipient's hard drive.

For our purposes, you are able to easily use the images right from the Scrapbook-Elements servers. If you would like to add the thumbnail view of your layout from the gallery, simply go to the appropriate gallery and view the thumbnails. Choose the thumbnail you want to display in your email message. Right click on it. In Firefox, choose the option that says "copy image location". This will put the link to this image on your clipboard.

In Internet Explorer, it is a bit more involved but still easy to do. Right click the thumbnail preview and choose Properties. When this window pops up, copy the long url that has the word "thumbs" in it. This is the link to that little preview image.

Next, in your email program, create a new message and then locate the option that allows you to add downloadable pictures from the Internet. Most programs have the option to Insert>Picture or Insert>Image. When this window pops up, paste the URL that you copied for the thumbnail image in the URL spot. The image should then show up in your email message. The image is being downloaded and viewed in the same way images work in a browser rather than being added to the actual message as an embedded or attached image.

(I used the same procedure as above to add the preview image here. I simply used the little Image Icon in the wysiwyg forum editor and pasted the url I copied following the directions above. Note that if you hover your mouse over this image, it doesn't show a link.)

Next we want the recipients to be able to click on that preview and see a larger view or go to that layout in the gallery to make their comments. Go back to the thumbnail in the gallery again. This time click on it to go to the full sized layout image. This time, copy the url address that is in the address bar of your browser. With this url copied to your clipboard, return to your email program. Click on the preview image that appears in your email. This part is important..the image must be selected for this to work properly. Now back up to the tool bar at the top and look for the option to Insert>hyperlink. There should be a line for you to paste the link to the full sized image.

The image now will be linked to the full sized image. You have done all of this without adding anything to the email message beyond links to images that reside on the SBE servers.

(I added the link to the preview image by clicking on the Link icon in the wysiwyg forum editor to allow the image to link to the full sized image in the gallery. If you hover your mouse over this image, you will see that it is linked to another image, unlike the one above.

The idea is the same for the email program and the forum. They just use a little different means to do the same task, just as most email programs will do the job a little differently.)
